It finally happened; I got infected with the iPad virus. I must say I was a bit skeptical when Apple announced the iPad. I mean isn’t it just a bigger iPhone? Who would want it other than gadget freaks like myself. Not that I don’t like the iPhone, quite the opposite I love my iPhone. I’m also one of the few who didn’t bitch about the lack of multitasking.
I use my iPhone a lot, especially for just normal browsing, reading the news and stuff. So I did see how there would be a small market for a bigger version of the iPhone, but to me it wasn’t enough to justify spending 500 bucks on something my iPhone already could do. Until until I saw NooBTooB’s iPad episode. In it they demonstrated the iPad and reviewed one game that just blew me away; Scrabble.
I’m not really a Scrabble fan boy, but by just seeing how you can play board games on the iPad, made me realize the potential this device has. Imagine having an interactive board that displays awesome graphics and animations. When playing Monopoly you could visually see your cities upgraded. And maybe the best feature is that nobody has to worry about cleaning up afterwards.
The Scrabble app also demonstrated the function where you could use your iPhone to display your letters and with the flick of your finger you could place your letters on the board (iPad). The only drawback would be that all your fellow players need to own an iPhone or iPod Touch to join a game of Scrabble.
So will I get one in June? As a poor student I don’t think I’ll do. I think I will wait a few generations, wait for the price to drop and for a frontal camera to be included, so that I could skype on it as well. But I’m definitely interested.
So I also created my first plugin: Random Adjective.
My previous blog was named Sexy Sammy, and since this is sort of an upgrade of my previous blog I want to have random adjectives infront of my name. The plugin replaces the string %ADJECTIVE% for a random adjective. Really easy. Took me 10 minutes to create this.
Here it is: My first WordPress Theme. I will call it “Panels”.
As you can see it’s pretty much a work in progress. I’m still in the wireframe stage, trying out functionality and layout positioning. So far I’ve only made the single post page. Will add a sidebar and other pages, when I’ve gotten all the WordPress functionality down I will style the lot, test it and publish it for you to download.
This theme is inspired on the panels you can find in most Adobe applications. Let me know what you think of the idea.
I’ve finally switched to the dark side, abandoning CodeIgniter and opting for the easy way; choosing the darth side.
Yes, I’m using WordPress, it has too many cool features to develop myself; and why waste energy trying to reinvent the wheel? So the only thing left for me to do is find out how to customize my own theme. Shouldn’t be that difficult, right? I mean I am a front end developer after all.
One tip I got, was to fill this blog with some pages and just strip down an existing theme. This way you have some content to play with. So that’s what this post is all about. It’s just a nonsense piece of text, maybe I should have used lorem instead..
